Preparing for Autumn

Autumn leaves are Mother's Nature seasonal art display.  But as beautiful as they may be on the trees and lightly scattered across the yard they can cause real damage to our vehicles!

Here are some handy tips to enjoy this scenic season without the potential hassle:

Wet Leaves

Most of the time as you drive dry leaves that have fallen overnight will blow away but wet leaves will create an acidic residue as they decompose that can etch your vehicle's paint finish.

Windshield

Both dry & wet leaves can build up in the space where your hoot meets your windshield; this can create a driving hazard if they get blown up into your vision while in motion.  Take the time to clean any build up out before driving off each day.

Under the Hood

While we're in the area; go ahead an open your hood regularly to check for leaf buildup inside the engine compartment.

Wet leaves can become stuck to the radiator reducing air flow and potentially causing overheating issues.

Dry leaf build-up inside the hot engine compartment can essentially turn into 'kindling' and any stray spark could start a dangerous engine fire!

Air Filter

This air filter casing should be closed but there are still cracks & crevices where the leaves can be blown in & build up.  It is very important for your vehicle's engine performance and fuel economy that the air filter be clean & unblocked.

Sunroof Track

Leaf buildup in your sun/moon roof tracks can cause expensive issues aside from the mess!  The best way to clean this area out without causing damage is to use a vacuum extension hose.

Coat of Wax

Giving your vehicle a good wash and applying a quality automotive wax will go a long way in helping to save you time in protecting your vehicle's finish against the elements.
